Day 90 of No Contact: What 'Done' Actually Looks Like
Three months. You are not the person who started this counter.
What done looks like
Ask people who did a full ninety days and they describe the same thing: they can think about their ex and not feel it in their chest. The person still exists, the history still happened, but it moved from something happening to you into something that happened. You can wish them well and mean it, without wishing they would call.
Done does not mean you never think about them. It means the thought has no pull.
If they reach out now
It happens more often around this point than at any other, partly because your silence is now long enough to be noticed. A message at day ninety is a test of you, not a change in them. Ask the only question that matters: has anything about them changed, or has something about your silence changed? If the relationship was harmful, the answer does not matter and the reply is still nothing. If it was simply over, you get to decide from a calm place, and calm rarely wants to reopen it.
Keep or retire the counter
Some people keep counting to a year because the number is a quiet source of pride. Some stop at ninety because they no longer think about it. Both are done. The rule stops being a rule when you stop needing to count.
What to do today
- 1Write the story of the relationship in one page, beginning to end. Notice that it has an end.
- 2Decide your terms: what would a reply from them need to contain for you to even consider it? Write it down while you are calm.
- 3Help someone who is on day three. You know exactly what to say now.
- 4Do something on your list that you kept postponing for 'when I feel better.' You feel better.

Day 90 questions
- Should I end no contact after 90 days?
- Ending no contact does not mean texting your ex. It means the rule stops being necessary. If you still want to reach out, ask what you want to happen after they read it. If the answer is 'nothing,' you may be done. If it is anything else, you are not.
- Is it normal to still miss my ex after 90 days?
- Missing them as a quiet fondness is normal and may never fully go away, especially after a good relationship. Missing them as a craving that costs you days is not typical at ninety, and worth talking through with a therapist.
